National Labor Thanksgiving Day

Today is November 23, 2020. In Japan it is Kinrō Kansha no Hi or 勤労感謝の日 in Japanese. It’s meant to be a day to celebrate labor, the productivity of Japanese people. Appropriately, it’s a National Holiday and lots of people have a day off from work. Except for me, of course. But I don’t resent it. I find it extremely fitting that I would be … Continue reading National Labor Thanksgiving Day

Hobbies

What are you guys’ hobbies? Are they expensive? Do they take up a lot of time? Why did you guys decide to pick it up? For the past two months, while I was busy working for my school and just being a wife, I fell into a hobby I never thought I would get into: writing fiction. And I’ve published my stories anonymously and gotten … Continue reading Hobbies

Catching Up

It’s funny how work always gets in the way of the things I want to do. The last few weeks have been very busy for me. As an English teacher here in Japan, I had to prepare for our special Christmas lessons at school as well as other End-of-Year activities. I think every educator knows that preparation is key when you’re in the teaching field. … Continue reading Catching Up

End of the Year

So we’re coming up on the last two months of 2019. Frankly, I have lots to do on my list, and I feel like I’m bowing to the pressure. For the past few weeks, every morning I wake up, I review the things that I have to do for the day. I start the day motivated and then I lose steam later on. I become … Continue reading End of the Year

Hanging On

Hubby is going through a crisis right now. He’s thinking about quitting his job, mostly because there are things that he just can’t deal with at his workplace. Unfortunately, the bulk of the comforting and the encouragement falls onto me. Frankly, it’s a little draining sometimes. Though I’m usually very supportive, I’m a little tired of the conversation. We’ve had this discussion so many times. … Continue reading Hanging On

Wantrepreneur

A wantrepreneur is someone who wants to become an entrepreneur but is not really doing the work to become one. Basically, they’re all talk with nothing to show for it. That’s me to a t. Somehow, the desire is still there to become an entrepreneur/business owner. The flame is alive and it’s still burning. However, taking the steps to get there is really lackluster. I … Continue reading Wantrepreneur

Off and On Hours

So today is my last day of spring vacation. I can’t really say that I took the time to relax, but I did have fun traveling all over Honshu. Tomorrow, I am officially back teaching. Wah, wah. During the break, though, I had a couple of messages from work. I got an email from head office that outlined my schedule for the year. I will … Continue reading Off and On Hours

Working While on Vacation

So I am in Tokyo Haneda Airport right now. I am on vacation–finally! Hooray! I’ve been looking forward to this trip so much because I can finally let loose and let my hair down, so to speak. However, a part of me can’t really do that, because I’ve learned my lesson from the last time I had a long break away from work. Last time, … Continue reading Working While on Vacation
